FAQs

  • A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to families during pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum period.

We don’t replace your medical care team, we work alongside them, focusing on your comfort, confidence, and overall experience.

  • Research shows that having a doula can lead to shorter labours, fewer interventions, and more positive birth experiences. Families often tell us they feel calmer, more prepared, and more supported with a doula by their side.

  • Absolutely. We support home births, hospital births, medicated births, unmedicated births, and planned or unplanned cesareans.
Our focus is on your choices and comfort.

  • A postpartum doula supports you and your family after the birth, helping you recover, care for your baby, and feel confident in your new role as a parent.
    Support may include:

    • Guidance with newborn care and feeding (breast/chest, bottle, or combination)

    • Emotional support and reassurance

    • Light household help so you can rest

    • Sibling adjustment support

    • Local resource referrals if needed

Daytime care: We’re there during waking hours to answer questions, offer hands-on help, prepare simple meals, watch the baby while you shower or nap, and help with newborn routines.

Overnight care: We arrive in the evening and care for your baby through the night, feeding, soothing, and settling them, so you can get a stretch of uninterrupted sleep. If you’re breastfeeding/chestfeeding, we’ll bring your baby to you for feeds, then handle burping, changing, and resettling so you can rest.

  • One of the benefits of working with a collective is built-in backup.
If your primary doula is unavailable when you go into labour, another experienced doula from our team will step in.
We make sure you meet your backup in advance whenever possible, so you’ll feel comfortable and supported no matter what.

  • Yes. We accept the Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program (DAFGP).
This program provides up to $1,200 in coverage for full-spectrum doula support for Indigenous families living in BC, with the goal of removing cost barriers and improving birth outcomes.
We do not accept insurance coverage or bill insurance providers directly. This grant program is currently the only form of funding we work with, but we hope more become available in the future.
